一般低压流体输送用螺旋焊管是以热轧钢带卷作管坯，经常温螺旋成型，采用双面自动埋弧焊或单面焊法制成的用于水、煤气、空气和蒸汽等一般低压流体输送用埋弧焊钢管。螺旋焊管中含Ni时在酸性环境中的耐蚀性，在含有硫酸及盐酸的环境中，可以发现，螺旋焊管之耐蚀性随Ni量的增加而增大，由此可知，一般环境下使用，不锈钢只需添加Cr，就可以防止发生侵蚀的现象，然而在特定环境下(例如：硫酸、盐酸中)使用，就必需再添加Ni，才能达到螺旋焊管防蚀的目的。一般除了锻造用途的不锈钢之外，不锈钢因其合金成份可以大致可以区分为：Cr系不锈钢、Cr-Ni系不锈钢。假如以晶体结构组织上来区分则可以分为：肥粒体系、麻田散体系、沃斯田体系、析出硬化系等。前者分类较为简朴，但是就应用上来说，後者更有意义，因此目前材料学上对於不锈钢的的分类，大多以後者为主。对螺旋焊管形状尺寸、壁厚有较高精度要求的钢管，石油自然气输送钢管、城市燃气用管，一般机械管、网架、结构管、汽车传动轴管、皮带机托辊管、煤·并排风、输水管，以及部门低压锅炉管、热力管、低强度油井管等这些领域的螺旋焊管能取代无缝管。无缝管发展方向应当是施展自身的上风，以出产高附加值和高技术含量的专用管为主。即在对强度、温度、压力、韧性、耐磨性、耐侵蚀性要求较高的领域，例如高压锅炉管，某些特殊用途的化工用管，深井用油井管。
